Kerr Lake "Buggs Island" Bass Fishing Information

Kerr Lake is an impoundment of the Roanoke & Dan Rivers, and lies on the border of NC & VA. Kerr Lake is known as "Buggs Island" in Virginia. Kerr Lake is an extremely large lake, with over 850 miles of shoreline and is just under 50,000 surface acres. North Carolina & Virginia have reciprocal license agreements that allow anglers to fish the entire lake with a fishing license from either of the two states. The lake has healthy populations of Largemouth Bass, Smallmouth Bass (river section), naturally reproducing Striped Bass, Crappie, Catfish, and baitfish species. The primary forage for the predator fish is shad.

Kerr Lake is only 45 miles from from Raleigh, NC; 110 miles from Richmond, VA; 180 miles from Charlotte, NC; and is 200 miles from Washington, D.C.

Fishing with me lets you fish with one of the most knowledgeable guides on Kerr Lake / Buggs Island. I am confident enough in my abilities to that I will offer you a free return trip if you don't catch bass. So, don't let the thought of not catching anything stop you from going, I'll ensure you get your money's worth and have a great time, too.

Trips are offered year-round. I fish all 12 months of the year, no matter the season.

All guided bass fishing trips will take place on my tournament bass boat, which is seen in many photos on this website. I will provide use of my bass fishing equipment (Denali Rods, Abu Garcia Reels, lures, tackle) with no additional charge, or you may bring your own. I will also provide life jackets, bottled water, soft drinks.

What you should bring on your guided bass fishing trip: Hat, polarized sunglasses (eye protection is required), sunscreen, rain gear, fishing license, bagged lunch or snacks. Feel free to bring your own camera, but rest assured I will have a camera on board the bass boat. I will also supply you with digital copies of your bass fishing pictures at no charge.

We typically meet at first light, but it's dependent upon the weather and time of year. In the Summer months we will start at 6 AM, but in the winter months we will start at 8 AM. We will meet at the ramp about 15-20 minutes before our start time.

Cancellations: Trip deposits are non-refundable. Trips that are cancelled due to inclement weather will be re-scheduled. Weather decisions will be made by your guide at the scheduled time of the trip. We will fish in light rains, but not during lightning or other dangerous weather events.
